EUPOL COPPS: Palestinian Civil Police Embarks on Comprehensive Training Course

JERICHO, January 20, 2012 (WAFA) -  Trainers of Palestinian Civil Police (PCP) launched a comprehensive training program for 24 experienced PCP officers in the new police training centre in the West Bank city of Jericho, Friday said an EUPOL COPPS press release.

The course, jointly designed by the PCP and EUPOL POLCOPPS, covers a variety of police sciences such as self-defense tactics, criminal code procedure and bylaw, crime scene management, traffic law and traffic violation investigation, code of conduct, human rights, communication skills,  command and control and operations room  procedure.

The 24 PCP officers are selected from all West Bank districts and have been in service for a few years. Over 1,000 police officers will be enrolled on the course, one of the most challenging projects of JPTC for 2012 that will be implemented until yearend.

The bulk of the training is being done by PCP trainers, in line with EUPOL COPPS strategy to give ownership to the Palestinian police.

However, the role of the EUPOLCOPPS members is that they have introduced  some amendments related to international standards and their training experience.

In late 2011, EUPOLCOPPS had initiated a-train-the-trainer workshop where all involved trainers had the chance to discuss among all involved their lesson plans and presentations, methodology and new developments in training.
