RAMALLAH, January 19, 2012 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic dailies Thursday highlighted the European Union paper criticizing Israeli measures against the Palestinians.
They also highlighted the Israeli strike on Gaza that killed two Palestinians.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam front page stories highlighted EU’s rejection of the Israeli measures and procedures against Palestinians in East Jerusalem and the West Bank, which endanger the peace process.
Al-Ayyam reported on the EU’s call on member states to confront the Israeli measures, which aim to annex East Jerusalem, as well as attacks by settlers and settlement activities in the West Bank.
The three dailies also focused on the airstrike which targeted Beit Hannon, north of the Gaza Strip, killing two Palestinians and injuring one.
They printed photos of families of the two Palestinians weeping at the funerals.
The three papers reported on President Mahmoud Abbas meeting with the German President, Christian Wulff, and EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton in Berlin where they discussed latest developments in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and bilateral relations.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida front page story highlighted the gas crisis in the Palestinian territory which coincides with the cold wave that hit the country. It wondered if there was actually a shortage in supply of heating and cooking gas or were some officials playing with the supply for their own profit?
The daily also reported on Europe’s calls on Israel to release 123 Palestinian prisoners who were arrested before the Oslo agreement in 1993.
Al-Quds editorial tackled the growing positive European position on the Israeli measures against Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza, which will endanger the peace process and the two-state solution.
It called on the Palestinian factions in Gaza not to fall for the Israeli trap which aims to inflame and escalate the situation.
