PCBS: Consumer Price Index up by almost 3% in 2011

RAMALLAH, January 12, 2012 (WAFA) - The overall Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the Palestinian Territory increased by 2.88% to reach 132.71 in 2011 compared to 2010, said a Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS) Thursday.

The change in CPI in 2011 is traced back to changes in prices of major expenditure groups such as Beverages and Tobacco, which increased by 6.22%, restaurants, cafes and hotels by 5.89%, transportation by 4.78% and textiles, clothing and footwear by 4.60%.

The CPI increased by 4.13% in Jerusalem, 3.54% in the West bank and 0.57% in the Gaza Strip.
