Newspapers Review: Dailies Focus on Two Palestinians Killed in Qalandia

RAMALLAH, August 2, 2011 (WAFA) - The three Arabic dailies Tuesday focused on the two Palestinians killed in the Israeli attack at Qalandia checkpoint in the West Bank on Monday.

Al-Quds, Al-Ayyam and Al-Hayat Al-Jadida’s main headlines reported on the death of the two Palestinians, Adwan and Khalifa during the Israeli attack on Qalandia check point on Monday.

The three newspapers printed photos of the funeral in which thousands of Palestinians participated; the two Palestinians were buried in the cemetery of Qalandia.

Al-Quds and Al-Ayyam reported on Israeli sources: “Netanyahu’s acceptance of the American formula to resume negotiations based on 1967 borders with reservations.”

In other headlines, Al-Ayyam’s front page had a story of the massacre in Syria, in which Syrian tanks bombed Hama city for the second day in a row and resulted in the death of eight civilians.

Al-Ayyam also reported on the new meeting between Hamas and Fatah which will take place in Cairo on Sunday, after facing hindrance regarding naming the president of the technocrat government.

An Al-Quds editorial accused Israel of escalating its provocative policy against Palestinians, which has reached an intolerable level after the unjustified murder of the two Palestinians at Qalandia check point.

“Once again, the Israeli government and Netanyahu prove that they are not interested in peace and will not try to fulfill its requirements; a stance entirely rejected by Palestinians,” the paper said.
