Peru, Ecuador to Vote for Palestinian Membership in UN

ISTANBUL, July 24, 2011 (WAFA) - Palestinian ambassador to Peru and Ecuador, Walid Abdul Rahim, said Sunday that both countries will vote for Palestinian membership in the UN this September.

Rahim added that Peru has recognized Palestine as an independent country since 1947 and that Ecuador has recognized Palestine with 1967 borders.

Speaking in the second Palestinian Ambassadors Conference held in Istanbul, Rahim said the conference is being held “as per the instructions of President Mahmoud Abbas to agree on a plan of action regarding the Palestinian UN bid in September, and to focus all efforts of Palestinian ambassadors worldwide towards recognition of a Palestinian state, especially by countries that have not yet recognized it.”
