RAMALLAH, July 16, 2011 (WAFA) – The three Arabic dailies focused Saturday on the “Independence March” in Jerusalem held on Friday and the death of 32 Syrians in a million march across Syria.
Al-Quds prime story featured hundreds of Palestinians, Israeli peace activists and international solidarities participating in the Independence March in Jerusalem, calling the United Nations to recognize an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The newspaper printed a picture of the march.
Al-Ayyam main headline read: “Over million Syrians protest against regime, police kills 32.” The daily said that the “Friday of Freedom Prisoners” protest is the largest since the beginning of the popular revolution four months ago.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida’s front page featured the Egyptian diplomatic support of gaining UN recognition of a Palestinian state. The story reported that Egypt Foreign Minister, Mohammed El-Orabi sent messages calling more than 70 countries to recognize a Palestinian state.
The Three dailies reported on the British Supreme Court’s decision to release Sheikh Raed Salah, head of the Islamic movement in Israel, after being detained for more than two weeks. The court’s decision bans Sheikh Salah from giving speeches or participating in conferences after his release.
The dailies also featured an international recognition of the Libyan repels’ Transitional Council as the legitimate representative and authority in the country, the news piece quoted Libya’s President, Mummar Gaddafi’s comment on the decision, saying “we’ll stomp the decision.”
