Palestinians and Israelis to March Together in Jerusalem for First Time Since 20 Years

JERUSALEM, July 14, 2011 (WAFA)-  For the first time in more than 20 years Palestinian and Israeli activists will hold a march in Jerusalem Friday under the title ‘Independence March’.

The march is organized by the Israeli leftist movement ‘Solidarity’ and the Palestinian Popular Committee in Jerusalem. The participants will raise slogans and banners calling for the recognition of a Palestinian state.

The march will start from Bab-al-Amud (Damascus Gate) to  reach Sheikh Jarrah, a neighborhood central of East Jerusalem, where Israelis and Palestinians will deliver speeches.
Hlal Ben-Shushan, a member of the ‘Solidarity’ movement, told Wafa that Israel talks a lot about peace, however, it continues building settlements and expanding the Separation Wall.

“We understand now that the Israeli government is misleading the youth from both sides of the Green Line, and we must raise our voices for the recognition of a Palestinian state,' said Ben Shushan.

He said that this demonstration aims to raise Palestinian and Israeli voice at the same time calling for the Palestinian independence and calling on Netanyahu to stop his policy, which is leading to a dead-end.
