RAMALLAH, July 7, 2011 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas Thursday cabled US President Barack Obama congratulating him on his country’s Independence Day, according to a statement issued by Abbas’ office.
Abbas expressed appreciation to “sincere US efforts and for everything it does to alleviate the suffering of our people and to achieve just and comprehensive peace in our region based on the two-state solution, Palestine and Israel living side-by-side in security, harmony and good neighborly relations.”
He expressed hope that this goal would be achieved during Obama’s term in office “in spite of the difficulties and challenges facing us,” said the statement.
