Presidency Strongly Condemns Israeli Decision to Increase Settlement in Jerusalem

RAMALLAH, July 5, 2011 (WAFA) - Presidential spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh strongly condemned, on Monday night, the Israeli decision to build hundreds of new settlement units in Gilo settlement in East Jerusalem.

Abu Rudeineh said, “this decision undermines any attempt to lay real foundations of a peace process that will lead to a true peace in the area,” adding that “this action represents Netanyahu’s response to Obama’s speech and to the Quartet’s upcoming meeting.”

The planning committee of the Israeli municipality in Jerusalem had approved on Monday a plan to build 900 settlement units in Gilo settlement, which is illegally built in East Jerusalem.

Israeli Minister of Interior Affairs Eli Yishai, the leader of Shas extremist religious and political movement, had approved the plan as the head of the committee.
