RAMALLAH, July 4, 2011 (WAFA) – Palestinian Prisoner’s Club (PPC) Monday said that prisoner Kifah Hattab, 51, is refusing to meet his lawyer or receive any visits as long as he is forced to wear the Israeli prison uniform.
Hattab, currently held in solitary confinement in Hadarim prison, went on hunger strike for 14 days in May and demanded that the Israeli prison administration treat him as a “prisoner of war,” in accordance with the Third and Fourth Geneva Conventions and international humanitarian law.
The prison administration agreed to meet some of his demands by not forcing Hattab to wear the orange prison uniform and allowing him not to stand up during count.
Hattab, a former pilot who was the director of Palestinian civil defense in Tulkarm, was arrested in June 2003 and sentenced to life in prison.
