RAMALLAH, June 27, 2011 (WAFA) -Palestinian Civil Police (PCP) recently destroyed some 15 kilos of narcotics in the West Bank city of Hebron on the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit trafficking, according to an EUPOL COPPS press release.

Governor of Hebron, Kamel Humeid, Police Distict Commander Col. Ramadan Awad, and EUPOL COPPS’s police advisers attended the event, in which  samples of  narcotics such as Hashish, Marijuana, ecstasy and cocaine were destroyed, the release said.

The amount, the largest to be seized in years, was collected in the past 18 months in Hebron, an active smuggling area with Israel, Awad said.

He said Forged U.S. dollars and Jordanian and Israel bank notes were also burnt, Awad added. “We have a zero tolerance for the problem of smuggling of narcotics. We are determined to fight it with all our might.”

The confiscated amount in Hebron governorate constitutes about 25 percent of all narcotics that were confiscated in 611 cases in the West Bank last year, according to the release.

“This is a major success of all the people who were involved in this operation,” Awad added.
