RAMALLAH, June 27, 2011(WAFA)- Palestinian Leadership decided to seek United Nations full recognition and membership of a Palestinian state next September within 1967 borders based on the international legitimate decisions concerning Palestine, according to Secretary General of the PLO Executive Committee, Yasser Abed- Rabbo.
He said, after a meeting headed by President Mahmoud Abbas in the presidential headquarter in Ramallah, that this decision is for the sake of a just peace process; which involves announcing an independent Palestinian state that lives in harmony with its neighbors and applying all international charters and resolutions.
The leadership asked all countries to support recognizing a Palestinian state, which helps the peace process and doesn’t contradict it. It explained that this step follows President Obama’s speech, Arab peace initiative, European Union statements and the International Quartet committee decisions.
It affirmed that the first step for a successful recognition starts with building a responsible, competent, clear government that represents the Palestinian people, follows the PLO’s guidelines and all international agreements concerning Palestine.
It said the reconciliation is the number one priority in comparison to regional problems, because this upcoming fight requires all Palestinians to be on the same side as a one united country.
The leadership called on Arab countries to continue its moral and financial support to Palestinians and their just case.
It expressed gratitude to King of Saudi Arabia for supporting the government in all steps in its pursuit for an independent state, especially with the financial crisis that the government is facing, which will affect our people and their resistance against the occupation.
It also praised peaceful public movements against the occupation and the wall, taking Bil'in as a successful example and how they got some of their land back.
The Palestinian leadership also called on its people to stand in the face of the racist Israeli policy against the Palestinian prisoners.
