JERICHO, June 27, 2011 (WAFA) - US Special Envoy for Middle East Peace, David Hale reiterated US rejection of the Palestinian plan t oseek United Nations recognition and full membership of a Palestinian state within 1967 borders and East Jerusalem as its capital.
Hale, during a meeting with Member of the Palestine Liberation Organization’s Executive Committee Saeb Erekat said that the US administration supports resuming negotiations based on President Barak Obama’s speech.
Erekat stressed that President Mahmoud Abbas is doing what is possible to implement the Palestinian reconciliation, starting with forming an independent technocratic government that follows his policy, stressing that the new government will not be split between any political factions.
The government objectives are to run the presidential and parliamentary elections, coinciding with the PLO National Council elections, and to rebuild the Gaza Strip, he added.
He also said that seeking UN membership doesn’t contradict with the peace process as gaining membership is based on International Law and legitimacy, the road map, the terms of references, the Quartet statements and Omaba’s speech last May, which was based on the two-state solutions on 1967 borders.
