Fatah: International Interest in Shalit Clear and Unfair Bias

RAMALLAH, June 25, 2011 (WAFA) – Fatah movement Saturday considered the international parties’ interest and calling for immediate release of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit, imprisoned by Hamas since in 2006, a clear and unfair bias.

In a press conference for Fatah Office of Information and Culture, spokesman Fayez Abu Eita said “the international community’s disregard of the Palestinian prisoners’ rights in Israeli jails violates the simple human rights and values.”

“We can’t understand their interest in one Israeli prisoner and their ignorance of the rights of thousands of Palestinian and Arab prisoners in Israeli jails,” Abu Eita said.

He called on the international community to oblige Israel to abide by Human Rights and international humanitarian law, as well as to acknowledge Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails as prisoners of war, in accordance to international law and conventions.

Abu Eita also called on influential international parties, including the US and United Nations, to condemn the Israeli violations of Palestinian prisoners’ rights, and to pressure the Israeli government for their immediate release, specially the children, elderly, patients and those who served in jails for a long time.
