RAMALLAH, June 21, 2011 (WAFA) – The British Consul-General in Jerusalem, Vincent Fean, Tuesday expressed support for resuming Palestinian-Israeli negotiations based on 1967 borders with land exchange as came in US President Barack Obama’s speech.
Fean said during a meeting with the Foreign Minister Riyad Malki that “Britain condemns settlements activities and the demolishing of Shepherd Hotel in East Jerusalem.”
The Consul General praised the Palestinian government’s efforts in building the future state infrastructure and reforms.
Malki said that the Palestinian leadership aims to reach a comprehensive and permanent solution through serious negotiations within a time limit and a specific goal.
The Israeli government must agree on the terms of reference of the peace process; which include Israeli withdrawal to behind 1967 borders, establishing a Palestinian state with Jerusalem as capital of both states, stopping all unilateral actions during negotiations, including settlements activities, said Malki.
He reiterated the necessity to stop settlement activities that create new facts on the ground to prevent the establishment of a geographically contiguous Palestinian state.
“A Security Council resolution to recognize the Palestinian state, a United Nations full membership, the Quartet’s supervision over negotiations, European Union recognition of the state and stopping the unilateral actions will lead to meaningful and serious negotiations,” he added.
