Israeli Court Defers Decision on Administrative Detention Order of Palestinian Parliament Member

RAMALLAH, June 19, 2011 (WAFA) - The Israeli Ofer military court Sunday deferred a decision on the administrative detention order of former Palestinian parliament member, Hussam Khader, in order to hold a private session with the intelligence officials.

Chief of the Legal Unit in the Palestinian Prisoner’s Club (PPC), Jawad Boulos, said that the military prosecution requested the judge’s approval to arrest Khader for six months, claiming that Khader poses a threat to the security and safety of the whole region through his activities.

He added that the prosecution did not provide any reasonable evidence to support their alleged charges against Khader.

Boulos, an Israeli-Arab lawyer who represented Khader at court said that the prosecution representative refused to answer him when he questioned their non specific allegations on the status and activity of Khader, in which he calls for a just and peaceful solution.

He added that the judge postponed the court’s hearing in order to hold a private session with the intelligence officials to raise all the questions that were not given any answers.

According to PPC, Khader approached the judge during the session and expressed his condemnation of administrative detention, stressing that his political activities is known in the Israeli and Arab Media and that his arrest came on the background of his activity in the meetings held on reconciliation.

Hussam Khader, who is also an activist in Fatah  movement was arrested in an Israeli military raid on his home in Balata, a refugee camp on the outskirts of Nablus, early June.
