Fatah and Hamas Resume Talks to Achieve Reconciliation

CAIRO, June 14, 2011 (WAFA) - Fatah and Hamas Tuesday held a meeting in Cairo to resume talks to achieve the Palestinian reconciliation.

Azzam al-Ahmed, Fatah central committee member and head of its delegation to the reconciliation talks, met with Musa Abu Marzouk, deputy political bureau chief of Hamas, in order to form a technocrat government which will be responsible for fully implementing the reconciliation.

Al-Ahmad told WAFA, 'We hope this will be the last session to form a technocrat government and name the prime minister and members of the new government.'

'Fatah is determined to end the division and implement the agreements with Hamas on the ground,' he added.

Member of the Hamas Movement Political Bureau, Izzat al-Rishq, said that “things seem positive and we are optimistic. Both sides are determined to make the reconciliation a success and end any form of division.”

Al-Rishq said, 'We agree that the new government we aim to establish is a transitional government whose members will not be from either Fatah or Hamas.'

'Today, the second session will be conducted to discuss the new government and also the issue of political detainees, which we will work to resolve as it is affecting the reconciliation,' he added.

An Egyptian official said, 'We are certain that the general positive atmosphere that has emerged from the reconciliation will eliminate any obstacles.'

He added, 'The Palestinian reconciliation is a national decision and the base on which to build the independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.'
