Cost of Living Index Decreased in May

RAMALLAH, June 14, 2011 (WAFA) - The cost of living index in the Palestinian Territory in May has decreased by 0.26% in comparison with April, said Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS) on Tuesday.

The decrease in prices of food, drinks, furniture, household commodities, medical services and communication fees is the main reason for the index decrease, despite the increase in housing prices, transportation, restaurants, hotels, clothing and other goods and services.

Consumer prices for May decreased in Gaza by 1.23% in comparison with April, while they decreased in the West Bank by 0.51%. In Jerusalem, prices were almost stable as they increased by only 0.02%.
