RAMALLAH, May 9, 2011 (WAFA) – Israel is escalating its violations against Palestinian journalists and targeting them deliberately, according to a monthly report released by the Palestine News and Information Agency (WAFA).
The report stated that eight journalists were injured and four were arrested in April 2011.
Israeli forces attacked the journalists with rubber bullets and tear gas bombs and assaulted them physically, it added.
Among incidents cited in the report, Israeli soldiers detained members of Palestine TV staff on April 5, 2011 at al-Hamra checkpoint, north of the West Bank, for two hours and stopped them from reaching the Palestinian village of Beit Dajan for filming.
Israeli forces physically attacked a Palestinian journalist, a photographer and a reporter at Silwan’s demonstration tent.
Settlers threw stones at and attacked other journalists and photographers as they were shooting footage of the settlers attacking a Palestinian village, the report showed.
Journalists have been the target of Israeli and settler violence as they attempt to cover the news of confrontations and violations throughout the West Bank.
