Jordanian FM: Jordan Began Political Movement to Warn Against Excavations in Al-Aqsa Mosque
AMMAN, February 7, 2007 (WAFA) - Jordanian Prime Minister Marouf Bakhit underlined said his government began political movement to contact international and regional parties to warn against the danger of Israeli digging in Al Aqsa compound with unacceptable pretext.
Bakhit stressed during his response to the Jordanian Senate House comments on state draft budget that the Israeli practices constitute a flagrant violation for UN Security Council related resolutions.
He added that government will not spare any effort to save the Al Aqsa Mosque from Israeli aggressions.
In his reply to Senate House remarks on the draft budget, Premier said we believe in expanding the political participation cycle, which is considered the pillars of stability and development.
In the same context, Jordan's Minister of Awqaf, Abdel Fattah Salah, said Israel's excavation work in Al Aqsa compound threatens the foundations of the mosque and constitutes flagrant violation of international laws and charters which prohibit desecration of holy shrines and Islamic heritage.
Salah, who is Chairman of the Construction Committee of Al Aqsa Mosque and Dome of the Rock, said Israeli authorities' work of demolition and damage at Bab Al-Magharebeh Road leading to Al Aqsa is very strange and astonishing and provokes feelings of Arabs and Muslims around the world. Meanwhile, the Islamic-Christian Commission voiced its deep concern over the continued Israeli excavation work near Al Aqsa Mosque in occupied Jerusalem.
The commission called on Arab and Islamic countries to take a firm stance against threats facing Islamic shrines in the holy city. It also urged international organizations, particularly the UNESCO to activate their decisions on preventing Israel from digging under the foundations of the Aqsa Mosque.
