PCBS: Performance of Industrial Establishments Become Worse in November
RAMALLAH, January 9, 2007 (WAFA) -Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS) said that performance of industrial establishments during November 2006 had become worse than in October 2006.
In a press release issued Tuesday on the Findings of the survey of the trends of the Owners/Managers of Industries in November 2006, PCBS revealed that according to 28.5% of the owners/ managers of the industrial establishments, the performance of their establishments during November 2006 had become worse than in October 2006, meanwhile, 36.7% refers that their production situation become worse.
On the other hand, 25.9% of the owners/ managers of the industrial establishments refers that transporting finished goods to market was worse during November 2006 compared with October 2006, while 18.7% refers that obtaining needed raw materials and inputs encountered worse situation during November 2006.
As for sales, PCBS pointed out that 45.0% of the managers refers that the sales during November encountered problems, while 23.5% refers that employees productivity was worse.
According to results, 34.3% of the owners/ managers refers that their establishments financial situation was worse, while 7.8% refers that the banks credits was worse during November 2006.
PCBS made it clear that the expectations of 47.2% of the owners/managers of industrial establishments revealed that the main reason for an expected drawback or steady sales level is the plunge in the purchasing power of the consumers, 9.1% believe that the falling or steady sales level is due to closure of the border crossings as well as security reasons and roadblocks, while 33.5% refers that differentiating seasons were the main reason.
According to 9.0% of the owners of the industrial establishments in West Bank and Gaza Strip, their establishments laid off workers in November 2006, however, 81.4% (82.3% for the West Bank and 78.9% for Gaza Strip) of the owners of the industrial establishments stated that there had not been any change to the number of workers.
