PLO Condemns Israel's Decision to Build New Colony in Jordan Valley


RAMALLAH, January 8, 2007 (WAFA) – The PLO Executive Committee condemned Israel's decision to build a new colony in the Jordan Valley in the West Bank and its ignorance of some political issues that have been agreed upon during the Abbas-Olmert meeting, demanding the calling off this decision as well as any other decisions on colony expansion.

In a meeting chaired by President Mahmoud Abbas in the West Bank city of Ramallah, the Committee stressed that suspending the talks on prisoners' file until Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit is released is totally rejected, affirming that releasing the Palestinian prisoners is the key factor in recovering the Palestinian-Israeli relations.

The Committee also rejected any transitional solutions for long term truce with Israel, including the "State with Temporary Borders" idea.

In this context, the Committee rejected the document of the PM Ismael Hanniya's Political Advisor, Ahmed Youssef, who said he formulated it with European and Israeli parties.

It affirmed that making this document and circulating it to some Arab leaders contradicts the role of the Government in accordance with law as well as national reconciliation document, stressing that any negotiations or political projects are attached to the PLO and its Chairman, who is also is the President of the PNA.

The Committee welcomed the initiative to resume the national dialogue to form a national unity government within two weeks.

It said that the call for earlier elections is still actual and pressing in case the national unity government is not formed.

During the meeting, the Committee discussed the current situation and taking the necessary measures to stop the criminal assassinations against citizens, political cadres and religious men.

The Committee also rejected the vandalism and kidnap acts carried out in the West Bank under the pretext of "reaction to assassinations in Gaza", calling upon security services to take measures necessary to stop them.

It also condemned the assassination crimes carried out by the "Executive Force", denouncing the killing of Sheikh Adel Nassar of the Sunni Group because of his opposing stance against the killings in Gaza, rejecting the Government's justifications of these killings.

The Committee also endorsed the President's decision to integrate the Executive Force with the other security services.

The Committee also condemned the media campaigns that attack the PNA and its President and the treats to wage civil war in an attempt to intimidate the Palestinian people.
