UNICEF's Rohrmann Says He is Shocked by Killing of 3 Children in Gaza
JERUSALEM, December 11, 2006 (WAFA) - Mr. Dan Rohrmann, UNICEF Special Representative in occupied Palestinian territory (OPT) said Monday he is shocked by the tragic event where three children were gunned down on their way to school this morning in Gaza city.
"This is another event highlighting the serious deterioration of the humanitarian situation in occupied Palestinian territory (oPt) and with tragic consequences for civilians including children," said a statement attributable to Mr. Rohrmann.
The three children from Ba'losha family, Salam, Ahmad and Osama aged 4, 6 and 7 respectively were driving in a car on their way to school as gunmen shot and killed all three children, and injured four more child bystanders.
"As UNICEF today, marks its 60th anniversary, I call upon all parties to protect children's rights. These rights must be safeguarded irrespective of the context they happen to live in," he concluded.
