GAZA, May 11, 2004, (WAFA) - Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF), backed by helicopter gunships, raided at pre-dawn on Monday the eastern part of Gaza City, killing five citizens and injuring 65 others, witnesses, medics and Palestinian security sources said.... Witnesses said that tens of Israeli tanks and armoured vehicles, backed by helicopters stormed early on Monday the neighbourhood of al-Zaytoon amid intensive fire, shelling and heavy air bombardment using surface air missiles at civilian houses.... They added that the IOF soldiers killed five citizens, wounded tens of them and destroyed industrial installations and infrastructure.... The tanks destroyed several stores and industrial installations during the on-going invasion, most of them in the Salah al- Deen main street. They also destroyed infrastructure especially the main electric transmitter in the area, witnesses said.... "Bulldozers destroyed a carpentry, toys factory and a workshop, they also razed agricultural land and destroyed roads, while tanks run over several vehicles parking alongside the streets," witness, Khaled Jum'a, said.... "My children and I were sleeping when the silence of night was shattered upon a sudden by gunshots and explosions, it was so horrible, my children were terrified. I saw tanks moving into the streets and shooting indiscriminately in every direction," a woman told WAFA reporter.... Israeli snipers, helicopters and tanks are involved in this atrocious aggression. The soldiers stormed the houses owned by the families of Dalloul, 'Ashour, Dahdouh and Khweiter, causing a severe damage to their contents. They took fighting positions atop the houses and started sharp shooting at any moving object, witness said.... One of the helicopters fired a missile at a group of citizens, instantly killing Fadi Nassar and injuring tens of others local residents said.... "I saw two wounded lying behind the Khweiter family house held by Israeli snipers. Ambulances were trying to evacuate them, but the Israeli fire chased paramedics," eyewitness, Kamel Jondi, said.... The medical sources said that five citizens were killed and at least 65 others were wounded, some critically, during the Israeli invasion of al-Zaytoon.... "Fadi Nassar 18, Mohammed 'Adas, 20, Hazim Malaka22, 'Ammar al-Jirjawi 30, and an unidentified one were killed on Monday, at least sixty five others were wounded, tens of them critically, including 12 children," al-Shifa Hospital official told WAFA.... "Some of the wounded lost parts of their bodies, others who are still bleeding may loose their life as Israeli troops prevented the ambulances from evacuating them," Abu Safiyah said.... The ambulances arrived in al-Shifa hospital carrying "tens wounded" which means that the number may raise, WAFA reporter at al-Shifa Hospital said.... Israeli tanks destroyed al-Rahman Mosque and turned it into a military post. Two military bulldozers took part in the attack and razed vast areas of agricultural land, Palestinian security sources said.
