IOF Destroys 11 Houses in Khanyounis
KHANYOUNIS, May 10, 2004, (WAFA) – Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) demolished early Monday eleven houses in Abu Haddaf area of al-Qarara town east-north of Khanyounis, witnesses and Palestinian municipal sources said.... They told WAFA that the IOF soldiers prevented the residents of the destroyed houses from taking any of their house contents.... They also said that the soldiers forced the owners out under a fire threat and started demolishing the eleven houses as well as razing 30-dunum arable lands around.... The municipal sources confirmed that it is difficult to determine the number of the razed houses due to the intensive Israeli shooting. The homeless houses owners headed toward the town seeking shelter.... Earlier on Sunday, the IOF troops stormed the area and imposed a tight military closure and shelled the civilians’ houses due to which a house blazed, the residents said.... They added that IOF tanks shelled with heavy machineguns and calipers the houses, where the house of Abdel Qader Abu Eid was burnt after a direct shell hit it.... The Palestinian ambulances’ access was denied to the scene due to the intensive volley of shooting.... Meanwhile, IOF processed constructing a fence on both sides of Abu Holy checkpoint near “Kisofeem junctionâ€, due to which vast areas of arable and residential land are besieged and isolated from the outer world....
