CAIRO, Sunday, July 14, 2019 (WAFA) – The 102nd round of the Conference of Supervisors of Palestinian Affairs in Arab Host Countries kicked off today at the Arab League‘s general secretariat headquarters in the Egyptian capital Cairo.
The meeting backed the position of the Palestinian leadership and the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) which rejects any solutions and deals that are not based on a two-state solution and that go beyond the resolutions of international legitimacy.
The meeting also rejected resettlement and the alternative homeland for Palestinian refugees, stressing that the American plan to dismantle the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) will be fully confronted.
The Palestinian delegation is headed by the head of the PLO‘s Refugee Affairs Department, Ahmad Abu Houli, the Director General of the PLO‘s Department of Refugee Affairs, Ahmed Hannoun, and the Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Cairo and its Permanent Representative to the Arab League, Diab al-Louh.
In his speech at the opening session, Abu Houli reviewed the Israeli violations against the Palestinian people in the West Bank and Gaza Strip and the impact of the cuts in the UNRWA budget on the situation of refugees in the host countries.
He also highlighted the efforts of the PLO with Arab countries hosting refugees to counter the US plan to dismantle UNRWA and mobilize political and financial support to renew its mandate, which will end in September, with an absolute majority in the United Nations in order to ensure its survival and continuity in providing services as a UN institution.
Abu Houli added that the session comes under serious circumstances and developments that accompany the refugee issue in the light of the serious statements by the US administration and the occupation government, Israel, on the liquidation of the refugee issue, in addition to the American effort revealed by US envoy to the Middle East Jason Greenblatt to settle refugees in hosts countries.
The agenda of the five-day conference includes the overall developments of the Palestinian issue, including the file of the refugees, UNRWA and the renewal of its mandate, follow-up of the Intifada and its support, and affirmation of the Arab identity of Jerusalem.
It will also tackle the Israeli settlements and Jewish migration, the Apartheid Wall, the refugee issue and its developments and way to strengthen the steadfastness of the Palestinian people in their struggle against the occupation.
Representatives of the Arab countries hosting Palestinian refugees, the Organization of the Islamic Conference, the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, the Arab League‘s Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) The Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) are participating in the conference.
