Arab FMs: All Arab countries committed to Arab Peace Initiative

CAIRO, March 7, 2017 (WAFA) – Arab foreign ministers underscored Tuesday that all Arab states are committed to the Arab Peace Initiative of 2002.

After the 147th Arab League Ministerial Council held in Cairo, the ministers stressed that the Palestinian people should be enabled to practice their indispensable political rights and have their sovereign independent state.

The meeting comes in preparation for the upcoming Arab summit in Jordan by the end of this month.

They also stressed the need to free all Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails and finding a solution to the problem of the Palestinian refugees according to international legitimacy.

The Arab ministers also demanded the international community to find a mechanism to implement the UN Security Council resolution 2334 of December 23 which assured that the Israeli settlements stand as a breach of international law and an obstacle to peace making.

They also urged the international community to commit to the UN Security Council resolutions number 476 and 478 of 1980 which consider the Israeli annexation of Jerusalem null and void and prohibit the relocation of embassies and diplomatic missions to the city.

The foreign ministers also demanded the UN Security Council to adopt a resolution to provide international protection to the Palestinian people.

The foreign ministers voiced out rejection to any Palestinian state with temporary borders, stressing that they will challenge any Israeli attempts to disconnect the Gaza Strip from the rest of the Palestine.
