RAMALLAH, December 13, 2016 (WAFA) – An attorney with the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS) said Tuesday that Ammar Hmour, from Jaba in the Jenin area, who is serving time in Israeli jails, has been on hunger strike for 23 days and is in difficult health condition.
The attorney, Karim Ajweh, said in a statement issued by the PPS that Hmour, who went on a fast to protest his administrative detention, is currently held in Asqalan prison but his health is gradually deteriorating.
He said Ajweh refuses to undergo physical checkups and is living difficult conditions in cold and crowded cells as well as ill treatment by the jailers.
Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails held in administrative detention resort to hunger strike to force their release.
Israel renews the six-month administrative detention terms constantly, which means a Palestinian can spend years in prison without charge or trial or even without knowing why he is being held.
