CAIRO,
October 13, 2014 (WAFA) – The Spanish Secretary of State for International
Cooperation, Jesus Aldaz, announced that Spain will contribute 36 million Euros
in assistance to the Palestinian Authority, said a press statement by the
Spanish Foreign Ministry on Monday.
The
statement stated that half of that amount will be allocated towards the
reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.
This
Spanish contribution, which is channeled through the ‘PEGASE[1]’ mechanism,
will be organized in cooperation with Palestinian governmental and
non-governmental institutions and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency
(UNRWA).
The
statement said that the Spanish cooperation contributed 7.8 million Euros
during the past year through the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation
and Development (AECID), of which one million was allocated for UNRWA.
AECID
has so far contributed a total of 3.178 million Euros for Humanitarian aid to
Gaza, said the statement, stressing that Spain maintains strong ties and
solidarity with the Palestinian people.
