RAMALLAH, October 8, 2026 (WAFA) — Israeli forces carried out a campaign of detentions and field interrogations overnight and into Thursday morning, targeting around 95 Palestinians in several areas and towns across the West Bank, with field interrogations accounting for the largest number of cases.
The detentions and field interrogations were mainly concentrated in the town of Aqaba in Tubas Governorate, Madama in Nablus Governorate, and Yatta in southern Hebron, as well as areas in Jenin, Bethlehem, and al-Bireh.
In Qalqilya, Israeli forces launched a large-scale detention campaign targeting former prisoners and their families, including the mother of a former prisoner and the wife of a prisoner. Troops also stormed and ransacked dozens of homes, including the home of Muayyad Shaaban, head of the Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission.
The Palestinian Prisoners' Society said that the raids, detentions, and field interrogations were accompanied by the vandalism and destruction of household contents and assaults on residents, amid an ongoing escalation in the use of force and violence against Palestinians.
It added that this campaign is taking place amidst an ongoing escalation, coinciding with a surge in colonist attacks on Palestinian towns and villages and the olive harvest season, which has witnessed repeated attacks on Palestinians, their land, and property, alongside continued land seizures and settlement expansion.
The PPS stressed that mass detentions and field interrogations constitute one of the tools of the system of control imposed by the Israeli occupation on the Palestinian people, alongside raids, abuse, home demolitions, and attacks on Palestinians and their property. It noted that these policies have seen an unprecedented escalation since the onset of the Israeli aggression in Gaza.
It said that detention operations and field interrogations in the West Bank coincide with the expansion of settlements and colonist attacks, reflecting what it described as coordinated roles between the Israeli military, its agencies, and colonists in imposing greater control over land and the population.
More than 26,000 detentions since the start of the war in Gaza
The Palestinian Prisoner’s Society said the number of detentions in the West Bank has exceeded 26,000 since the onset of the war in Gaza, in addition to thousands of detentions carried out by Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip.
Meanwhile, Israel announced on Wednesday that it had carried out 46,000 detentions and interrogations of Palestinians in the West Bank since the start of the war in Gaza.
The society warned that the continued commission of these violations in the absence of international accountability encourages Israel to continue using detentions, field interrogations, and other tools of repression and control.
It renewed its call on the international community and human rights organizations to assume their responsibilities and work to hold Israel accountable for ongoing violations against the Palestinian people, including mass detentions, field interrogations, torture, deliberate killings, and settlement activity.
