RAMALLAH, September 27, 2026 (WAFA) — The Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs said Palestinian prisoner Qusay Elayyan, from the occupied Jerusalem town of Issawiya, is experiencing severe health conditions in Israel's Gilboa prison, where he is serving a 14-and-a-half-year sentence.

According to a statement issued by the commission, Elayyan has been detained since December 14, 2021. He suffers from a lung condition, asthma and breathing difficulties, has lost 16 kilograms, and has boils covering parts of his body.

Elayyan told his lawyer that the conditions in Gilboa prison are extremely difficult, citing severe overcrowding that forces some prisoners to sleep on the floor due to insufficient space.

He also said the food provided is inadequate in both quantity and quality and does not meet prisoners' nutritional needs, contributing to widespread weight loss among prisoners.

According to Elayyan, prisoners are also prohibited from speaking with detainees held in other rooms.
