RAMALLAH, August 5, 2026 (WAFA) — Palestinian prisoner Hana Mohammad Mohi al-Din Tahaina, 48, from Jenin, has recounted the details of her detention and the conditions of her detention in Damon Prison, stressing she was denied the chance to bid farewell to her six children when Israeli forces raided her home.
The Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs Commission said in a report issued Wednesday that Tahayneh was detained on June 8, 2026, and placed under administrative detention. It noted that this is her first imprisonment experience, although she had previously lived through the hardships of detention as the wife of former prisoner Sharif Tahaina, who spent 10 years in Israeli prisons.
According to Tahayneh's testimony to the Commission's lawyer, Israeli forces stormed her home around 3:00 AM, searched it, and then detained her. Soldiers then handcuffed her with plastic ties, blindfolded her, and forced her to walk a considerable distance, despite the fact that military vehicles could have reached the vicinity of her home.
She added that she was kept for hours in a small, warehouse-like room, handcuffed and blindfolded, and denied access to the toilet. She noted that during her transfer to Sharon Prison, she was subjected to shouting and insults when she tried to slightly remove the blindfold. Upon arrival at the prison, she was subjected to a strip search, beatings, humiliation, and harsh treatment.
The commission said Tahaina was later transferred to Damon Prison, where she remains detained and suffers from several chronic conditions, including migraines, rheumatism, irritable bowel syndrome, and painful varicose veins. It added that the prison administration has refused to provide her with pain medication.
The Commission highlighted the difficult conditions faced by female prisoners in Damon Prison, including a lack of basic necessities such as food, clothing, and feminine hygiene products. It also noted the ongoing repression and searches, and the practice of forcing female prisoners into the prison yards during the intense heat, accompanied by verbal abuse and insults.
