RAMALLAH, July 26, 2026 (WAFA) — The Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs said that its lawyers visited several Palestinian prisoners held in Israel's Naqab prison and documented continued deterioration in living and health conditions, including repeated complaints of medical neglect, poor-quality food, shortages of summer clothing, and physical and verbal abuse.
In a statement, the commission said that 19-year-old prisoner Hashem Mamoun Mahasneh from Jenin refugee camp, who has been held under administrative detention, without charges or trial, since April 28, 2025, suffers from severe dental pain requiring urgent treatment. He also suffers from a fungal infection that remains widespread despite receiving topical treatment and requires further medical care.
The commission said Mahasneh reported continued harsh detention conditions, including insufficient and poor-quality food, beatings and insults without justification, and a severe shortage of summer clothing.
The commission also cited prisoner Imad Muayad Fawzi Habash, 37, from Nablus, who has been held under administrative detention since July 28, 2025. He said he suffers from high blood pressure and receives medication from the prison clinic, in addition to hearing loss and persistent ringing in his left ear resulting from an injury sustained during suppression operations at Megiddo prison in late 2025 involving stun grenades.
Prisoner Moataz Hisham Mohammad Yacoub, 28, from Tulkarm, who has been held under administrative detention since July 17, 2025, said he needs antibiotics and painkillers due to recurring infections related to three previous fistula surgeries before his detention. He said prison authorities have failed to provide the necessary treatment.
Yacoub also said he urgently needs his prescription glasses, which he was arrested without, and reported continued medical neglect, poor food, abuse of prisoners, and shortages of summer clothing. He added that he has lost around 40 kilograms since his detention.
Meanwhile, prisoner Mohammad Raja Ahmad Al-Khatib, 28, from Beitunia near Ramallah, who has been held under administrative detention since August 5, 2024, said he contracted scabies at the beginning of the year. Despite receiving treatment twice, the condition returned after treatment was stopped. He also suffers from hearing loss in his right ear due to being assaulted while held in Ofer prison.
