ICRC facilitates transfer of nine Gaza released detainees to hospital, calls for access to all detainees to be permitted

GAZA, 5 July 2026 (WAFA) – The International Committee of the Red Cross International Committee of the Red Cross announced that it facilitated, on Sunday, the transfer of nine released detainees from the Karam Abu Salem crossing Kerem Shalom Crossing to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in the Gaza Strip Gaza Strip, and enabled their communication with and reunification with their families.

In a statement, the ICRC said it has facilitated the transfer of more than 2,500 released detainees through the same mechanism since 2023.

The organization stressed that it has been unable to access Palestinian detainees held in Israeli detention facilities and prisons since October 2023, reiterating its call for information on the fate and whereabouts of all detainees and for access to visit them.

The ICRC emphasized that international humanitarian law obliges all parties to treat detainees humanely, ensure adequate conditions of detention, and enable contact with their families.

It added that many Palestinian families continue to await information about their detained relatives amid ongoing concerns over their health and safety, noting that it continues its dialogue with Israeli authorities to resume visits to all Palestinian detainees.
