Israeli forces compel Palestinian to self-demolish home north of Jerusalem

JERUSALEM, May 29, 2026 (WAFA) – Israeli occupation authorities on Friday forced Palestinian citizen Raafat Joudeh Awadallah to demolish his own home in the eastern area of Qalandia, north of occupied Jerusalem, after exhausting legal efforts to prevent the demolition.

According to local sources, Awadallah was compelled to carry out the self-demolition of the house, where he had lived for decades with his family of seven, after receiving a demolition notice from Israeli authorities on the first day of Eid al-Adha.

He was given three days to demolish the home himself or face forced demolition by Israeli authorities along with heavy financial fines.

Journalist Mahmoud Awadallah said the house is located east of Qalandia village near the roundabout leading to the industrial zone surrounding the entrance to Jerusalem Airport.

He noted that the house is one of seven homes in the area that received demolition orders, prompting several owners to carry out self-demolitions to avoid steep penalties and demolition costs.

He added that the area has for years faced ongoing targeting of homes and residential and agricultural structures as part of policies aimed at restricting Palestinian urban expansion around occupied Jerusalem.
