GAZA, May 24, 2026 (WAFA) – The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) announced that it facilitated the transfer of two Palestinian detainees released by Israeli authorities through the Kerem Abu Salem crossing to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital on Saturday. The ICRC also facilitated their communication and reunion with their families.
In a press release, the ICRC stated that it has facilitated the transfer of more than 2,500 released detainees through this mechanism since 2023.
The ICRC emphasized that it has been unable to access Palestinian detainees held in Israeli detention centers since October 2023, reiterating the need to be informed of the fate and whereabouts of all detainees and to be granted access to visit them and assess their conditions.
It stressed that, under international humanitarian law, detainees must be treated humanely, provided with suitable detention conditions, and allowed to communicate with their families.
It also noted that many Palestinian families are still awaiting any information about their detained relatives, amid growing concerns about their health and safety.
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) affirmed its continued dialogue with the Israeli authorities to resume its visits to all Palestinian detainees and ensure respect for their rights under international humanitarian law.
