JERUSALEM, May 22, 2026 (WAFA) – Nine colonists forced their way into the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in Jerusalem on Friday evening, carrying a “bread offering,” after assaulting two mosque guards, in a serious precedent, the first of its kind since the occupation of Jerusalem in 1967.
The Jerusalem Governorate reported that the colonists stormed the compound through Bab al-Ghawanmeh and reached the courtyard of the Dome of the Rock, amid extensive incitement by extremist “Temple” groups on the occasion of the so-called Jewish Shavuot holiday.
It added that this escalation comes in the context of ongoing attempts to impose new realities inside the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, accompanied by calls to bring plant and animal offerings into the compound as part of efforts by so-called “Temple” groups to impose biblical rituals and alter its Islamic identity.
Incitement by colonists’ groups to storm the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound intensified on Friday, a day when it is closed to colonists’ incursions, in addition to Saturday.
