GAZA, February 23, 2026 (WAFA) – The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) announced on Monday that it facilitated the transfer of eight Palestinian detainees from Israel to the Gaza Strip.
The ICRC said that it had facilitated the transfer of eight Palestinian detainees released from Israeli imprisonment to Shuhada Al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir al-Balah via the Karm Abu Salem border crossing, with the ICRC team helping them restore contact and reunify with their families.
It added that it had not been able to access Palestinian detainees in Israeli detention centers since October 2023, underscoring the need to be informed of the fate and places of detention of all Palestinian detainees and allowed immediate access to them.
It reiterated that under international humanitarian law, detainees are entitled to humane treatment, held under proper conditions, and allowed contact with their families.
It concluded by saying that many Palestinian families were still waiting to receive any information about their loved ones in detention, voicing concern about their health conditions and safety, and affirming that it would remain in touch with the Israeli occupation authorities to resume visits to all detainees.
