RAMALLAH, November 10, 2025 (WAFA) – The UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967, Francesca Albanese, said that "evidence shows that Palestinian prisoners from Gaza have been subjected to torture by Israeli authorities since February 2024."
In a press statement on Monday, she emphasized that Israel remains shielded from accountability for these crimes.
The Guardian published an exclusive report revealing that Israel is holding dozens of Palestinians from Gaza in an underground prison called "Rakeft," where prisoners are deprived of sunlight, adequate food, and any contact with their families or the outside world.
The report is based on testimonies from lawyers from the Public Committee Against Torture in Israel (PCATI), who visited the prison and spoke with two civilian prisoners.
The report also confirmed that many of the prisoners are entirely civilian, and that Israeli courts extend their detention in short video hearings without lawyers present, justifying this with the phrase "until the end of the war."
