UNRWA: One in three children in Gaza went without food in 24 hours amid blockade

NEW YORK, September 26, 2025 (WAFA) – The UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has reported that one in every three children in the Gaza Strip did not consume any food in the past 24 hours due to severe shortages caused by the ongoing Israeli blockade.

In a statement released Friday, UNRWA cited a rapid needs assessment conducted by the International Rescue Committee, which found that many children in Gaza spent an entire day without access to any meals.

The agency said the humanitarian toll on children is particularly devastating. Many families are struggling to cope with extreme deprivation, forcing some children to resort to work or begging to survive.

UNRWA added that the psychological and physical impact of hunger, combined with ongoing war, is placing children’s health, safety, and development at serious risk.

UNRWA renewed its urgent call for an immediate ceasefire, emphasizing that a ceasefire is crucial to protect the lives and well-being of Gaza's youngest and most vulnerable residents. The agency warned that without swift international action, the humanitarian crisis for children in Gaza could worsen even further.
