GENEVA, August 30, 2025 (WAFA) – The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) stated on Saturday that the evacuation of Gaza City cannot be carried out safely under current conditions and would result in mass displacement beyond the capacity of any area in the Strip to absorb.
The organization pointed out to the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza City and the severe risks posed to civilians by Israeli evacuation orders, particularly as Israel seeks to empty the city in preparation for its occupation.
According to the ICRC, such an evacuation would trigger a large-scale displacement of Palestinians amid widespread destruction of civilian infrastructure and acute shortages of food, water, shelter, and medical care caused by Israel’s ongoing assault.
The committee also noted that civilians are already traumatized by months of war, living in fear of what lies ahead, and that many cannot comply with evacuation orders because they are starving, ill, wounded, or living with disabilities.
It further stressed that under international humanitarian law, all civilians are protected, regardless of whether they leave or remain in the city, and must be allowed to return to their homes.
