Jerusalemite prisoner enters his 24th year in Israeli occupation prisons

JERUSALEM, July 18, 2025 (WAFA) – Palestinian prisoner, Muhannad Nayef Jweihan from occupied Jerusalem, entered today his 24th consecutive year in Israeli occupation prisons.

Jweihan was arrested by Israeli forces on February 8, 2002, at the age of 16 in the al-Thawri neighborhood of occupied Jerusalem. He was later sentenced to 25 years in prison on charges related to resisting the occupation.

Since his arrest, he has been transferred between multiple prisons and subjected to repeated physical and psychological abuse. Prior to his detention, he sustained fractures to his nose and jaw, injuries from which he continues to suffer, particularly jaw looseness and persistent pain.

Despite the harsh conditions of imprisonment, Jweihan completed his high school education, enrolled in Al-Quds Open University, and earned a bachelor's degree in social work with a “very good” grade. He also began a master’s program and completed two semesters, but since the beginning of the latest Israeli assault on Gaza in October 2023, the Palestinian side has received no information about his condition or whereabouts.

According to prisoner advocacy groups, there are currently 480 Palestinian prisoners from Jerusalem held in Israeli occupation prisons, including 21 women and 75 children.
