UNRWA: Information on Gaza aid volumes is misleading, only 9% of needs met

RAMALLAH, June 1, 2025 (WAFA) – Adnan Abu Hasna, media advisor to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), stated on Sunday that widely circulated information regarding the volume of humanitarian aid entering Gaza is misleading, emphasizing that the distributed food baskets cover only a small fraction of the needs of over two million people.

In an interview with Voice of Palestine Radio, Abu Hasna explained that only 800 aid trucks entered Gaza over the course of 17 days, meeting just 9% of the population's basic requirements. He warned that hunger and malnutrition are rapidly rising, while Gaza faces a collapsing health system and widespread water contamination, marking one of the darkest chapters in the lives of its residents.

Abu Hasna also highlighted ongoing Israeli efforts to dismantle UNRWA, replacing it with an alternative system that lacks operational capacity and infrastructure. He noted that while UNRWA previously managed aid through 400 distribution points, the current system operates with only three to four, making effective aid delivery nearly impossible.
