UNRWA warns: Only meaningful, uninterrupted aid flow can prevent further catastrophe in Gaza

GAZA, May 25, 2025 (WAFA) – The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) warned on Sunday that the only way to prevent the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza is through a consistent and effective flow of aid, as the Israeli blockade on the Strip continues into its third month.

In a post on X, UNRWA stressed that Palestinians in Gaza can no longer afford to wait for aid to arrive. The agency emphasized that a minimum of 500 to 600 aid trucks per day, coordinated by the United Nations, is urgently needed to meet the basic needs of the population.

Gaza has been enduring a deepening humanitarian and relief crisis since March 2, when Israel sealed off border crossings, halting the entry of essential supplies. The agency reiterated that without a sustained influx of aid, the current catastrophe will continue to escalate.

Over the past 80 days, 58 people—primarily children and the elderly—have died from malnutrition, while another 242 have died due to lack of food and medical supplies.

Israel’s continued blockade and military escalation, including ground offensives in northern and southern Gaza, have driven the Strip into famine conditions, affecting nearly 2.4 million people.
