Rights group: Israel responsible for health of elderly Palestinian prisoner Mohammad al-Natsha

RAMALLAH, April 18, 2025 (WAFA) — The Palestinian Prisoner's Society (PPS) has held the Israeli occupation authorities fully responsible for the life of elderly Palestinian detainee Mohammad Jamal al-Natsha, 67, from the southern West Bank city of Hebron.

In a statement released Friday, PPS reported that al-Natsha, who has been detained since March 11, 2025, is facing a serious deterioration in his health. His family has been informed that he was transferred to a hospital just days after his detention, reportedly due to severe interrogation.

PPS stressed that due to Israel’s continued ban on family and lawyer visits, no clear information is available regarding the extent of al-Natsha’s condition. The organization accused the Israeli authorities of attempting to conceal the treatment he has been subjected to by preventing outside contact.

Al-Natsha has previously been detained several times, spending a total of 23 years in Israeli prisons—most of it under administrative detention without charges or trial.

PPS noted that al-Natsha’s case is one of many, underscoring the widespread use of harsh interrogation tactics, torture, and orders banning access to legal counsel during the initial period of detention. The organization warned that these methods, coupled with ongoing violations, have led to the deaths of dozens of Palestinian detainees in recent years.
