Palestinian detainees suffer cruel and unbearable living conditions inside Israeli jail

RAMALLAH, March 12, 2025 (WAFA) – The Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs said that the conditions of Palestinian detainees held inside the Israeli Megiddo Prison remain cruel and unbearable, with food scarce and personal hygiene supplies lacking.

The Commission's lawyer reported on Wednesday that detainee Naseem Hosni Hamad, 26, a resident of Sidon, northeast of Tulkarm, held in Section 2, Room 1, at Megiddo Prison. He was detained on December 21, 2023 and suffered from dizziness and constant headaches.

The prison administration deliberately neglects his medical condition and refuses to give him painkillers or take him to the prison clinic. He has been suffering from scabies for 15 months and has received treatment, but he continues to suffer from the dampness, lack of ventilation, and lack of personal hygiene inside the jail.

Hamad stated in his testimony before the Commission's lawyer that the showering time is supposed to last an hour, but in reality, it is only half an hour, as the prison administration deducts a full half hour for each detainee. The remaining half hour is not enough for all the detainees to wash.

Regarding food, he said he lost 24 kilograms as a result of the systematic starvation policy varied out by the occupation's prisons, where the food is poor and insufficient.
