NEW YORK, January 19, 2025 (WAFA) – Philippe Lazzarini, the Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), confirmed today that the agency has 4,000 trucks loaded with humanitarian aid, half of which are carrying food and flour, ready to enter the Gaza Strip.
Lazzarini also indicated that attacks on aid convoys in Gaza may decrease once humanitarian assistance begins to flow following the ceasefire. He emphasized that UNRWA remains committed to continuing its operations in both Gaza and the occupied West Bank, despite the Israeli-imposed ban on its activities set to take effect on January 30, 2025.
UNRWA is the only agency capable of providing essential healthcare and education services in Gaza.
In a related development, Rik Peeperkorn, the representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) in the occupied Palestinian territories, revealed that the organization plans to deploy an unspecified number of field hospitals to support the severely impacted healthcare sector in Gaza over the next two months.
