Israeli occupation forces detain 20 Palestinians across West Bank

RAMALLAH, January 5, 2025 (WAFA) – Israeli occupation forces have detained at least 20 Palestinians, including children and former prisoners, over the last 24 hours, according to a joint statement by the Palestinian Authority’s Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoners Society.

The statement noted that the detentions took place across several West Bank governorates, including Hebron, Bethlehem, Tulkarm, Jericho, Ramallah, and Jerusalem.

In a particularly tragic incident, Israeli occupation forces executed Hassan Ali Rabay'a, 40, from the town of Meithalun in the Jenin district. The forces surrounded his home, opened fire on him, detained him, and later announced his death.

His body continues to be held by the Israeli authorities. Rabay'a is the father of Ali Rabay'a, a young boy who was killed by Israeli forces in July of the last year.

The detentions are part of Israel's systematic policy of collective punishment, which targets entire communities to weaken any form of Palestinian resistance. These measures are a cornerstone of Israel's broader strategy to suppress Palestinian political expression and dismantle organized opposition to the occupation.

These systematic detention campaigns have become a central policy of the Israeli occupation, intensifying significantly since the onset of the current ongoing aggression on Gaza in October 2023.
