RAMALLAH, November 10, 2024 (WAFA) - The Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS) and the Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs Commission said the Israeli occupation authorities are committing severe violations against detainees from the Gaza Strip.
In a joint statement on Sunday, the Commission and PPS clarified that the occupation forces particularly committed these violations during the detention and in the initial stages of detention inside the detention camps.
The Commission and PPS stressed that their teams managed to visit approximately 30 detainees from the Gaza Strip who were held under harsh conditions and stringent restrictions in the Israeli Negev and Ofer prisons. This group included medical staff who had been detained at Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza, whether detained within the hospital or through so-called “safe corridors.”
The detainees' testimonies once again highlighted the extent of brutality imposed by the occupation forces, said the joint statement.
The statement noted that the visit, which was conducted on November 6th and 7th, confirmed a series of systematic and ongoing crimes that underpin all testimonies from Gaza. These accounts particularly emphasize the methods of physical and psychological torture, as well as systematic humiliation.
The detainees made an urgent appeal for winter clothing as the harsh cold began to take hold, especially in the Negev prison during nighttime. They lack proper winter clothing, and each detainee only has a light blanket that fails to provide adequate warmth.
Furthermore, the prison administration intentionally removes mattresses and blankets at dawn, returning them only late at night. This practice has exacerbated the spread of scabies, as blankets from all sections, including both infected and non-infected rooms, are gathered together, turning them into vectors for disease.
Additionally, basic personal hygiene supplies are severely lacking.
