Israeli forces raid village near Salfit

SALFIT, November 8, 2024 (WAFA) – Israeli occupation forces Friday evening raided the Marda village, north of the occupied West Bank city of Salfit, according to local sources.

They said that the occupation troops stormed the village simultaneously while firing barrages of live gunfire and flare bombs.

They added that the occupation forces sealed off the western entrance of the village at a time when the eastern entrance continues to be blocked by a metal gate for several months.

Israeli occupation forces frequently raid Palestinian houses almost daily across the West Bank on the pretext of searching for "wanted" Palestinians, triggering clashes with residents.

These raids, which also take place in areas under the full control of the Palestinian Authority, are conducted with no need for a search warrant, whenever and wherever the military chooses in keeping with its sweeping arbitrary powers.

Under Israeli military law army commanders have full executive, legislative and judicial authority over 3 million Palestinians living in the West Bank. Palestinians have no say in how this authority is exercised.

Israel severely restricts Palestinians’ freedom of movement through a complex combination of over 100 fixed checkpoints, flying checkpoints, settler-only roads and various other physical obstructions.

Closures besides other measures, taken under the guise of security, are intended to entrench Israel’s 57-year-old military occupation of the West Bank and its settler colonial project which it enforces with routine and frequently deadly violence against Palestinians.
